Rising LCD panel prices threaten cheap big-screen TVs before Black Friday

Cheap big-screen LCD TVs could become less attractive this Black Friday as panel prices rise, according to reports from The Elec and ETNews, cited by FlatpanelsHD.

Chinese panel makers BOE, TCL CSOT and HKC now dominate supply for brands including Samsung, Sony and LG. The producers are reportedly restricting output to contain oversupply and defend prices. TCL CSOT and HKC are expected to raise prices on some products in September 2026, while BOE is expected to raise prices in the fourth financial quarter.

The higher costs could affect affordable LCD TVs whose profit margins are already thin. Manufacturers may also find it difficult to change production plans because Black Friday and holiday panel orders have reportedly been secured.

Samsung is reportedly cutting QLED production by up to 80% in 2026, from 10 million units to 2-3 million units, and may drop QLED entirely by 2028. The company is shifting attention toward mini-LED-branded and Micro RGB LED TVs. ETNews also reports that Samsung’s QD TV shipment plan is below 30% of the original plan, while Neo QLED production next year could be only half of this year’s level before gradually stopping.

Samsung continues to invest in QD-OLED and future technologies such as QD-EL, also known as NanoLED, according to FlatpanelsHD.
