Rabbit’s OS3 AI agent can run without an R1

Rabbit is rolling out OS3, a standalone AI agent that does not require the company’s R1 hardware, The Verge reports. The company says OS3 is an “agentic operating system” that runs in the cloud while operating locally across Windows, Mac, and Linux devices.

According to Rabbit, one account can connect up to five devices and use preferred AI models. OS3 will automatically determine which devices, files, apps, and AI models it needs to complete a task.

Users can access OS3 through a dedicated desktop site, a paired messaging app such as Telegram or iMessage, and Rabbit’s R1 device. The Verge’s report follows earlier reporting by Wired.

Rabbit founder Jesse Lyu told Wired that the company has stopped manufacturing R1 devices. Rabbit is still pursuing AI hardware, however, and is focusing on a new vibe-coding “cyberdeck” that will run OS3 when it launches within “months,” according to Wired.

Rabbit claims OS3 will not store, copy, use, or sell users’ data. The company says it will still keep users’ chats and the memories derived from them on its servers. Other AI providers connected to OS3 will handle data under their own privacy rules.
