Meta lets AI agents manage WhatsApp Business setup

Meta says it will let businesses use AI agents to set up and manage WhatsApp Business messaging. The company announced the change alongside new AI-focused subscription plans, according to TechCrunch.

The capability is powered by WhatsApp Business Tools MCP, an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that connects coding agents such as Claude, Cursor, Codex, and ChatGPT directly to the WhatsApp Business Platform.

Meta says the process previously required developers to move among the Developer Console, Meta’s Business Manager, the API reference, and their editor. Businesses can now describe what they need in a conversation with an AI agent.

The agent can create a WhatsApp Business account, add and verify a phone number, register access to the Cloud API, and check the business’s Terms of Service. It can also create or edit messaging templates, test messages and webhooks, and monitor issues involving the Terms of Service, payment method, and Business Verification.

Meta Social Technologies MCP can be used alongside the new server to discover API endpoints, search documentation, and help troubleshoot errors, Meta said. The company is expanding its existing MCP servers, which also support ad management and app-configuration monitoring.
