ChatGPT Voice plugins connect conversations to apps

ChatGPT Voice can now use plugins and connected apps during conversations when users select the Live voice model. TechRadar’s Eric Hal Schwartz tried the feature and found that it can help carry everyday tasks beyond ChatGPT.

Using the Instacart plugin, Schwartz described dinner ingredients he already had. ChatGPT suggested a recipe and needed ingredients, then assembled an order through Instacart. He said the exchange kept more of the process in one conversation, though he still had to review and approve actions on screen.

Plugins can also help users narrow down what they want through conversation. Schwartz found StubHub useful for moving from a general search for something to do toward a particular event and time. Apple Music could find music and create playlists, but it could not use his personal library or recent listening. Spotify was not available in his test.

Plugin availability depends on what is offered to a user’s account and may depend on their plan. Some plugins also require setup or sign-in before Voice mode. Actions that need confirmation still require on-screen approval, and the article notes that users may want to be selective about which plugins they connect.
