Anthropic has released Sonnet 5.5, the latest version of its mid-tier AI model. The company says it is designed for everyday work, including coding and creating office documents.
Anthropic says Sonnet 5.5 is 30 percent faster than Sonnet 5, its predecessor, and uses tokens more slowly. Sonnet 5 was announced about three months before Sonnet 5.5, according to the source report.
Sonnet sits below Anthropic’s Opus model in the company’s model lineup, but Anthropic says it can be more useful in some situations because of its agility. The company’s benchmarks show Sonnet 5.5 outperforming Opus 5.5 on agentic coding. The report attributes this result to Sonnet 5.5’s ability to run multiple agents without exceeding cost limits.
Anthropic also says Sonnet 5.5 has cyber capabilities comparable to Opus 5. The company says it is the first Sonnet model to receive the same cyber safeguards that apply to Fable and Opus.
Anthropic plans to release a new version of Haiku, its smallest model, in the coming weeks. It has not given a firm release date.
