YouTube is introducing Shorts Series, a feature that lets creators organize Shorts into TV-style seasons and episodes. The company announced the tool at its Made On YouTube event.
Shorts Series adds custom thumbnails and playback controls to a more traditional episodic structure. Viewers can watch selected Shorts as a continuous story instead of moving between standalone clips. Each series appears on its creator’s YouTube channel.
The feature is rolling out to creators in the YouTube Partner Program across the web, mobile devices, and connected TVs. The move comes as creators and entertainment figures experiment with microdramas and vertical storytelling. Hannah Stocking starred in the musical microdrama Playback, which premiered on Holywater’s MyDrama platform. Joshua Ovenshire, also known as TheJovenshire, is an executive producer on vertical shows for ReelShort, including Secrets and Soulmates.
YouTube’s announcement places Shorts Series alongside competing microdrama services. TikTok recently launched PineDrama, while ReelShort and DramaBox have also gained popularity. YouTube says the feature builds on Creator Shows, tools announced at last year’s upfront event that helped selected creators such as Michelle Khare and Rhett & Link organize content into seasons and episodes for television viewing.
