Trump and AI leaders sign pledge that misspells ‘United States’

President Donald Trump and several AI leaders signed a voluntary pledge on Tuesday aimed at adding controls and safety measures as artificial intelligence advances. The document, called the “Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities,” says companies training and deploying frontier models should ensure their technology behaves as intended and that problems are identified and resolved promptly.

A photo Trump shared on Truth Social showed “United States” misspelled as “Unites States” beneath his signature. The other signatories and their companies were spelled correctly. TechCrunch said it had contacted the White House for comment.

The announcement followed a White House meeting with AI leaders including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. The gathering came weeks after Sam Altman, Amodei and Elon Musk called for slowing AI development, a position Trump and Huang had rejected, according to the report.

The pledge calls for independent board oversight and internal controls. It is voluntary, and the report says there appear to be no legal or regulatory consequences for signatories who break it. After the meeting, Zuckerberg called the accord a “start” the whole industry could support and described the discussion as “sort of a historic conversation.”

The report also says Trump is requiring government departments and agencies, through an executive order, to replace “artificial intelligence” with “superintelligence” or “SI.”
