Amazfit T-Rex Dual Solar brings solar charging to an AMOLED smartwatch

TechRadar reports that Amazfit’s T-Rex Dual Solar combines an AMOLED display with solar charging from both sides of the watch. The front extends battery life, while a more efficient rear plate can reportedly revive a completely depleted battery in sunlight.

Amazfit says the rear plate can help restore access to functions such as maps and route information when traditional power is unavailable. The watch can charge in conditions of 50,000 lux or more for 3 hours or longer. This approach differs from Garmin’s solar watches, which use lower-power memory-in-pixel displays with Power Glass.

In normal conditions, the watch offers up to 25 days of battery life. Optimal solar conditions can extend that to 35 days, while accurate GPS mode provides 41 hours of use. The titanium case includes a flashlight with red and white modes, and the sapphire crystal display reaches up to 3,000 nits.

The watch includes full-color preloaded maps, ski maps, intelligent route planning with turn-by-turn directions, Apple Watch Ultra-style waypoints, and LiveShare, Amazfit’s equivalent of Garmin’s LiveTrack feature. In the US, it costs $649.99. Pricing in other regions is still TBC, at around £500 and AU$900.
