Valar Atomics has proposed Project Beehive, a data center campus on more than 9,000 acres of federal land near Price, Utah. The company says 456 modular reactors would supply the site with 9.6GW of power. None of that electricity is intended for homes.
Each reactor is listed at 25MW, but those figures do not add up: 456 units at 25MW each would total 11.4GW, 1.8GW above the proposed 9.6GW. TechRadar reports that the published figures do not explain the difference. The campus could also use reactor heat for industrial operations.
The proposal includes roughly 650 additional acres of state-controlled land, taking the total footprint above 9,650 acres. Valar previously considered a 10,200-acre site near Green River before filing its current request near Price. The company describes the campus as grid-independent and plans to produce fuel and store nuclear waste on site.
Major work depends on the Bureau of Land Management’s review, including checks required under NEPA. The proposal calls for non-nuclear work to begin in late 2026, reactor operations in 2028, and campus completion in 2032. Local groups have raised concerns about the site’s size, location, waste storage, and industrial activity. Approval remains pending, and the project’s timeline and construction are uncertain.
