TikTok has quietly launched a standalone TikTok Shop app in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, expanding its e-commerce efforts beyond the main TikTok app. The app is available on iOS and Android.
It offers personalized product recommendations, shopping through live streams and short-form videos, app-exclusive deals, in-app checkout, order tracking and customer support. Its description also mentions free shipping offers and benefits for first-time orders.
The app was first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra. TikTok did not respond to TechCrunch’s request for comment. The company has not said whether it plans a broader release or a launch in the United States.
A separate destination could help TikTok Shop reach shoppers outside TikTok’s main platform and compete more directly with established e-commerce apps such as Amazon and Temu. The move also echoes Amazon’s earlier attempt to use its short-form video feed, Inspire, to drive sales on its platform.
TikTok has expanded beyond social networking and entertainment into games, restaurant guides, sports hubs, hotel booking and microdramas, and is also exploring payments.
