Sony’s Daniel Craig Says QSSR Can Replace PSSR With Days of Tuning

Sony has introduced QSSR, an AI-powered upscaler for PlayStation 5. The technology is a performance-focused version of PSSR, which is used on PlayStation 5 Pro.

According to Wccftech, Daniel Craig, principal engineer for Graphics R&D at Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), told Digital Foundry that QSSR is a “drop-in replacement” for games that already support PSSR. He added that adapting game settings takes more time, perhaps a few days of tuning.

The source says QSSR launched in Ghost of Yōtei and Marvel's Wolverine. It reports that Craig’s comments point to possible adoption in games that have already been released, though no broader rollout is confirmed.

Sony describes QSSR as focused on performance. The source says it is intended to reduce the gap between the base PlayStation 5 and the mid-generation PlayStation 5 Pro, which it calls the most powerful current-generation system.
