Some users report light leaking around the screens of Amazon’s latest base-model Kindles, especially when they use dark mode. The devices have a flush bezel, but users say the issue becomes more noticeable when the room is dark and the screen brightness is turned up.
Reported symptoms include shadows around the screen edges and, in some cases, visible LED strips. The issue appears to affect both plastic and aluminum models in all colors.
Some glow around the edges may result from combining front lighting with a flush screen. But Reddit users say images posted there show more pronounced light leakage that appears to be a defect.
Good e-Reader reports that Amazon is aware of the issue and has confirmed that a manufacturing problem may have caused defects in the current Kindle batch. Amazon declined to provide an on-the-record statement when contacted by The Verge.
