ROG Zephyrus G16 Reaches 215W Power Limit With Experimental Utility

Premium gaming laptops often trade some performance for portability. Wccftech reports that ASUS’ ROG Zephyrus G16, a thinner gaming laptop normally capped at 175W, was tested at a 215W power limit using an experimental utility called “NvpwrControl.”

The utility can unlock the power limit for various NVIDIA laptop GPUs. The report attributes the test to a user who was dissatisfied with the amount of power available to the CPU. However, raising the limit comes with obvious risks, and the result does not represent a standard configuration for the laptop.

According to the report, the Zephyrus G16 may have demonstrated that it can run at 215W. The higher limit also appears to push the system close to its thermal-throttling ceiling. Unless the ambient temperature is chilly, the experience may be uncomfortable for the user.

The test also highlights the trade-off behind thinner gaming-laptop designs: higher power limits can increase heat and produce jet-like fan noise. Wccftech’s account presents the result as an experimental demonstration rather than a recommendation for ordinary use.
