TechRadar reviewer Timothy Coleman says Peak Design’s Mobile Tripod has stayed attached to his Pixel 8 Pro since he bought it six months ago. He uses the compact magnetic accessory for hands-free filming, photography and watching videos.
The tripod attaches to MagSafe and Qi2 phones, though Coleman found the connection weak without Peak Design’s SlimLink case. The tripod folds flat to 0.8 cm thick and adds 76 g to a phone. Coleman says its ball head allows secure angle adjustments, but its short legs limit its height. Turning the phone to a horizontal position can also take some effort.
Coleman says the small footprint has been useful for tabletop filming and photography, including the Pixel’s long exposure mode. He also uses the tripod to watch long-form content on train and plane tables. After about four months, the small magnet holding the hex key came loose; the key stayed attached to his phone, and he fixed the magnet with super glue.
The Mobile Tripod costs $80, £75 or AU$125. Coleman describes it as fairly pricey but recommends it for people who want to use their phones hands-free. He also reports that his SlimLink case blocked tap-to-pay, so he had to remove it to make payments.
