OpenAI’s annual revenue is about $20 billion lower than previously reported, according to financial documents the company shared with investors, the Financial Times reported.
Earlier estimates put OpenAI’s revenue at an annual run rate of $70 billion this year. The investor documents give a figure of $50 billion. The difference is about $20 billion, equivalent to roughly 200 billion Swedish kronor, according to Techtidningen’s account.
A source cited in the report said the figures were adjusted to make them comparable with those of competitor Anthropic. The companies use different methods to report revenue. Anthropic includes revenue from cloud providers such as AWS and Google Cloud, while OpenAI does not.
The figures could affect market expectations for growth in the AI industry and raise questions about how the companies’ financial performance should be compared in the future.
