OpenAI has launched Dots, a GPT-6-powered feature in ChatGPT that can work on ongoing tasks between conversations. TechRadar reports that the agents are designed to act toward goals set by users, rather than wait for each individual prompt.
Users set a Dot’s goals and boundaries. According to the report, each Dot has its own cloud computer and browser, where it can use the web, apps, code and plugins without operating on the user’s computer. Its activity can appear as in progress, scheduled or completed.
Examples described by TechRadar include checking a user’s calendar to prepare a morning report and reviewing information from connected services and apps. OpenAI has also added Dots to Slack and Teams, with text support described as coming soon. The report says built-in safeguards can pause or stop a Dot if its system detects malicious instructions or behavior.
Dots are initially available to eligible ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium users at no additional cost. TechRadar says only work toward a set goal counts against usage limits; conversations with Dots are free. Users must set up Dots on the desktop app or in a browser, then can interact with them through the mobile app. OpenAI has not shared plans for a broader rollout. TechRadar says expansion to other subscription types is possible, but that remains uncertain.
