OpenAI has acquired Orchestra Bio, a software startup focused on biotechnology, the company announced on its website. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Orchestra Bio builds AI agents to help biotechnology companies manage drug discovery operations, including tracking finances and resolving clinical trial scheduling issues. The four-year-old startup had reportedly raised around $20 million as of 2025 from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Atria, and 8VC.
OpenAI says Orchestra Bio’s team and technology will work on Rosalind, its AI model for life sciences research, and Rosalind Workbench, a related tool designed to help researchers plan experiments and analyze results. OpenAI says Rosalind customers include Moderna and Novo Nordisk.
The acquisition comes as major AI companies build software for industries such as pharmaceuticals. Some startup founders fear that AI labs could introduce features that make them competitors. In this case, Orchestra Bio is being absorbed into OpenAI, according to the source.
