Octopus Energy, CATL and Ampace have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together on home energy storage. The agreement sets out a partnership between the energy supplier and the two battery manufacturers, but the companies have not announced specific products.
Octopus Energy will contribute its smart tariff, mobile app and customer platforms. CATL and Ampace will bring battery chemistry and hardware expertise. The initiative will initially focus on European markets.
The companies said the work could explore technologies such as sodium-ion batteries, high-density cell designs and longer battery lifecycles. These are possible areas of development, not confirmed features of products. The joint announcement said home batteries could charge during off-peak periods and send power back to the grid when demand is highest.
Octopus founder and CEO Greg Jackson said the collaboration would “transform home energy storage” and bring batteries in which hardware and software work together. Jason Zhu, Ampace’s president of Energy Storage Systems, said the partnership would reshape how energy is delivered and consumed as systems become smarter, more connected and more accessible.
Product details and offers have yet to be announced. The companies have not provided figures for potential customer savings.
