Microsoft Unveils Surface Laptop Ultra With Nvidia RTX Spark

Microsoft has unveiled the Surface Laptop Ultra, a new high-end laptop built around Nvidia’s RTX Spark platform. Shipments are scheduled to begin on October 16, 2026, with prices starting at $2,599. Other configurations cost $3,699.99 and $5,899.99.

The entry model has 24GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. A second configuration offers 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, while the top model has 128GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. All models use a 15-inch mini-LED display. Microsoft says the laptop is aimed at creators, AI specialists, engineers, scientists, developers and others running demanding applications.

The hardware combines Nvidia’s RTX Spark platform with an N1X processor and RTX Blackwell graphics, and supports up to 128GB of unified memory. Microsoft is positioning it for professional applications rather than gaming. Adobe is adapting Premiere Pro and Photoshop for RTX Spark; a demonstration showed an optimized version of Premiere Pro rendering a scene faster. Applications need to be adapted for the platform’s Arm-based architecture to take full advantage of it.

The laptop does not include ConnectX-7 or QSFP ports, limiting direct high-speed connections to DGX Spark systems that use Nvidia networking hardware. The source says this may matter to AI professionals expecting to connect the laptop directly to other Nvidia systems for development workloads. Its trackpad, display and professional design also put it in the same high-end laptop market as Apple’s MacBook Pro.
