Meta Will End Quest 2 and Quest Pro Support After 2027

Meta plans to wind down support for its Quest 2 and Quest Pro virtual reality headsets by the end of 2027, according to an announcement on the company’s developer blog reported by TechRadar. The devices are “reaching the end of feature development,” Meta said.

New app submissions for the headsets will close in December 2027. Meta also said Quest operating system version 2.13, due in March 2027, will be the last version compatible with them. Quarterly security patches and critical bug fixes are planned through the end of 2027.

Users will still be able to find, buy, download and play apps, and developers can continue sending updates. Cross-play with Quest 3 and Quest 3S will continue. Meta said users will keep access to purchased content and that no apps will be removed from its store because of the change.

Meta will not test new operating system or SDK releases on the older headsets, leaving developers responsible for checking that their apps work. The company urged developers to assess how many users still rely on these devices and consider separate releases. Developers whose decision to end support could remove access to content or services should give users at least 180 days’ notice, Meta said.
