Accounting staffing company Mavi has emerged from stealth with a marketplace connecting U.S. companies to global finance and accounting professionals with AI skills. Co-founders Molly Liu and Aman Puri founded the company in 2023.
Mavi says it helps companies find and onboard talent within days, and handles tasks associated with cross-border hiring, including contracts, compliance and payroll. Liu, the company’s co-CEO, told TechCrunch that Mavi focuses on full-time, long-term placements, mainly for mid-level and senior roles that support in-house finance teams.
Liu said the U.S. accounting profession is shrinking, while some remaining workers lack the AI skills companies need. She argued that automation could deepen the shortage of experienced staff if fewer entry-level workers progress into mid-level roles. In her view, finance teams still need experienced people to review AI output and make judgment calls, and adopting more AI tools can increase expectations of senior staff.
The company said an AI-proficient accountant needs strong accounting fundamentals, the ability to direct AI tools and assess their output, and familiarity with large language models and AI-focused enterprise resource planning systems.
Mavi raised a $4 million seed round last year, led by Harlem Capital, and announced it on Monday. Liu said the platform now has more than 3,000 accounting professionals. Its enterprise clients include personal care company Athena Club.
