Magnetar has unveiled the Ultima, a reference-grade player for 4K Blu-ray and premium audio formats. The player is being shown in the US at CEDIA 2026 and is priced at $12,000.
Built on Magnetar's MKII player platform, the Ultima supports 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray, SACD, DVD, CD, DVD-A, DSD/DoP, USB and network playback. It uses an external DC power supply instead of an internal AC setup, resulting in two separate units.
The system includes dedicated lithium-based power stages designed to isolate the transport, clock and signal paths from noise and fluctuating voltage. These power stages are made by BYD.
A synchronized master clock system uses a unified 10MHz reference clock. The Ultima has no audio DAC, as it is designed to deliver audio data to another component in an audio system.
Connectivity includes two HDMIs, with one dedicated to audio, as well as gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0, AES/EBU and coax S/PDIF. The Ultima is available through Magnetar's dealer network.
