LG Display reportedly targets 111-inch OLED panels

LG Display and Guangzhou Development Zone Holding Group are reportedly investing an additional 1 billion yuan to upgrade production facilities for large OLED displays, according to TechRadar, citing market analysis firm TrendForce as reported by FlatpanelsHD.

The planned upgrades are said to focus on large OLED modules in 77-inch, 83-inch, 97-inch and 111-inch sizes. TrendForce reportedly called the ability to introduce a 111-inch panel a major highlight of the project. The investment and product plans have not been independently confirmed in the source.

The report raises questions about whether the upgrades could also improve the technology in LG’s existing 97-inch OLED. TechRadar says the 2026 LG G6 97-inch model has a 4K panel with a native 120Hz refresh rate, but uses an older non-Tandem panel dating to the LG G2 from 2022. The smaller models use LG’s Primary RGB Tandem 2.0 panel.

TechRadar says the 97-inch model is less bright and color-accurate than those smaller models, while large TVs also face competition from bright, increasingly affordable mini-LED and RGB mini-LED sets. The report suggests that improving production for 111-inch OLED panels could also help lower manufacturing costs for 77-inch and 83-inch models, though that outcome is uncertain.
