Laytr app saves web content beyond articles

Laytr is a new app for saving web content, including articles, recipes, screenshots, videos, PDFs, bookmarks and browser tabs. It sorts saved items by type and lets users group them into collections called “cases.” Users can also choose a date to be reminded about an item.

Developer Mostafa Talaat, an independent developer in Ontario, created Laytr after hearing that Mozilla’s read-it-later app Pocket would shut down. His company, Waitery Inc., publishes the app. Talaat told TechCrunch that keeping the archive on users’ devices and in their own iCloud was a privacy choice. Laytr does not require an account, and Talaat said he cannot see what users save. Items sync across iPhone, iPad and Mac through iCloud.

The app can import a Pocket export. It does not personalize a feed or use AI to summarize or automatically tag saved items. Laytr is free to try, with a 30-item limit. Premium costs $1.99 per month, $14.99 per year, or a one-time $39.99 for lifetime access. The lifetime plan is on sale for $24.99 until the end of December.

If a subscription lapses, saved items remain, but users cannot add more unless they resubscribe or reduce the archive to the free plan’s 30-item limit. Users can export the archive as a ZIP containing readable Markdown and HTML files for each item, along with notes, tags, dates and collections.
