Meta has added Apple TV to the list of platforms compatible with Instagram for TV, bringing the app’s Reels and other video content to Apple’s streaming device.
The app focuses on Reels, live streams and other video content formatted for larger screens. Instagram began testing the TV-focused version in December of last year. In June, it added new features and expanded availability to Amazon’s Fire TV, Samsung Smart TVs and Google TV.
MacRumors spotted the Apple TV addition on an updated Instagram App Store page on October 23. Archived versions of the page as recently as October 18 listed only iPad and iOS as compatible platforms.
The Verge reports that the move may fit Instagram’s plans to expand into longer-form, episodic content and capitalize on the growing popularity of microdramas. Meta has not made a major announcement about the Apple TV availability, according to the report.
