TechRadar reviewer Jim Hill tested the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise 4701, a compact A4 office printer designed for teams of up to 10 people. He found that it produced economical black prints and vibrant color pages, though its interface was frustrating and its color toner was expensive.
The printer has a maximum speed of 35 pages per minute (ppm), or 33ppm on A4 paper, and a first-page-out time of 5.7 seconds. Its print resolution is 600x600dpi, with an enhanced 1200x1200dpi option. Hill reported crisp, legible black text and bright color output, while noting that photos could lose some contrast and detail.
The 4701 has a dual-core 1.4GHz processor and 2GB of memory. Its recommended duty cycle is up to 4,200 pages per month. The standard paper drawer holds 250 sheets, and users can add up to two 550-sheet paper cassettes, priced at around US$370 each. A 50-sheet multipurpose tray handles envelopes and specialty paper.
Hill also highlighted Wolf Pro Enterprise security, including HP’s post-quantum cryptography protection, and options for fleet management. The tested model costs US$730 or £590. Hill said setup took longer than on some HP printers because it lacks Bluetooth setup and uses a small, non-touchscreen control panel. His review describes a capable, expandable printer, with usability and toner costs as drawbacks.
