Google Home update adds fixes across Android and iOS

Google is rolling out a major update to the Google Home app for Android and iOS, with fixes for Gemini features, Matter controls and Nest cameras. The rollout may take a few days to reach everyone.

According to the official changelog, Gemini should more reliably transfer music between rooms, set timers and control YouTube TV playback. The update is also intended to reduce cases where Gemini responds that it did not understand when no voice command was given.

The app adds a Home Premium benefits screen and more specific icons on Android for Matter-controlled windows, doors, garage doors, gates, blinds and cabinets. Matter devices that show energy data will also have more tailored controls. Camera improvements include more reliable event timeline scrolling on iOS, smoother live view on Android foldable phones, better Wi-Fi connectivity and faster night vision switching across Nest cameras. Some camera models also get more accurate status light behavior.

Other app changes include more reliable online status indicators on iOS and smoother-loading spaces on Android, alongside visual adjustments to settings and parental controls. Firmware updates are also rolling out for Google TV Streamer, Nest Wi-Fi units, and Nest and Google Home speakers. Speaker improvements cover streaming performance, audio quality, paired-speaker volume tuning, local network discovery, Bluetooth streaming, Wi-Fi 7 compatibility and Google Meet voice controls. Google has also applied security patches. The update does not address every issue users have reported.
