Wccftech reports that Ghost of Yōtei sold 3.3 million copies in its first month, while developer Sucker Punch Productions cut 26 jobs.
The Bellevue-based studio is owned by Sony, which has owned it since August 2011, according to Wccftech. The report cites Aftermath as its source for the layoffs and says the outlet included an internal email that studio executives shared with staff.
In the email excerpt quoted by Wccftech, studio executives said they had reviewed market challenges and the team’s needs for the next project before deciding to reduce staffing. They said several positions across Sucker Punch would be eliminated.
The report does not specify which roles were affected or provide further details about the next project. It also does not say that the job cuts were caused by the game’s sales performance.
