Fujifilm’s Instax Pal 2 adds a screen and viewfinder

Fujifilm has announced the Instax Pal 2, a follow-up to its small Instax Pal camera, which debuted three years ago bundled with an instant printer. The original was a palm-sized, round camera without a screen or viewfinder. The Instax Pal 2 instead resembles a miniature analog film camera and includes both.

The camera will launch in the US later this month for $169.95, according to PetaPixel. It uses a ⅓.06-inch sensor and an f/2.2 28mm lens to capture images up to 10-megapixels. That is a substantial increase over the Kodak Charmera’s 1.6-megapixel sensor.

An optical viewfinder and a 1.3-inch LCD screen on top support framing, reviewing shots, and applying image effects. The camera also offers autofocus, optional face detection, adjustable ISO, shutter speed, and exposure compensation.

Photos can be transferred wirelessly to a phone or instant printer over Bluetooth. A slide-out USB-C port provides another connection option. The camera has a flash, tripod mount, self-timer, and rechargeable battery rated for up to three hours of use, Fujifilm claims. Its controls include a shutter button, joystick, and lever modeled on the mechanism used by older film cameras. The Instax Pal 2 works with Fujifilm’s mobile app for downloading effects and sending images to a phone for printing.
