Ember’s third-generation Mug 3 lets users adjust drink temperature with a button on the mug, without opening the app. The temperature-controlled smart mug was introduced alongside the Tumbler 2, which replaces the Travel Mug 2 and the original Tumbler in Ember’s lineup.
The button, located on the mug’s bottom, cycles through five preset temperatures from 125 to 145 degrees Fahrenheit, increasing by 5 degrees with each press. The reviewer says it was the feature used most during testing, but found the button difficult to reach and press. The Ember app still offers drink-based presets and lets users create their own; Ember recommends 136 degrees for black coffee, 132 degrees for green tea and 142 degrees for lemon water.
Mug 3 has a sliding lid designed to help prevent spills and can maintain the selected temperature for up to 3 hours on a charge. It is the first mug in Ember’s lineup that is safe for the top rack of a dishwasher, but it is not microwave-safe.
The mug comes in 10-ounce and 14-ounce sizes, priced at $129 and $149, respectively. The smaller size is offered in 3 finishes and the larger in 8 colors. Tumbler 2 holds 16 ounces and has a slimmer, taller design intended to fit standard car cup holders. It is available in black for $179. The Travel Mug 2 will remain available while supplies last. The products are available through Ember’s website, Target and Amazon.
