TechRadar reviewer Lauren Scott says the Bird Buddy 2’s integrated solar roof kept its camera powered for more than six months without recharging. In her review, she describes the feeder as polished and easy to maintain, while noting that its detection and landscape framing have drawbacks.
The circular magnetic camera rotates between portrait and landscape modes. Its video reaches 2K Ultra resolution for Premium users, but the landscape view crops the seed tray, and the camera sometimes misses birds. Scott also reports that live streaming can lag or fail to load, and that Frenzy Mode missed birds visible from her kitchen window.
The app offers AI species identification, live streaming and daily Postcards without a paid subscription. The optional Bird Buddy Pro plan costs $5.99 per month or $59.99 per year and adds longer clips, 2K Ultra Resolution, Alexa integration and species-specific AI filtering. Scott praises the app’s organization and educational content, but says the lack of customizable sleeping hours led the camera to miss early morning visitors.
At $299 in the US and about £300 on Amazon UK, the Bird Buddy 2 is priced at the premium end of the category. The built-in solar roof supports extended use, but accessories such as a wall mount are not included. Scott concludes that she enjoys the core experience, while wishing for more reliable bird detection.
