The Bigme B6 Color is a versatile color e-reader that costs less than the Kindle Colorsoft. Its six-inch color E Ink display, 64GB of storage, and 4GB of RAM are paired with a MediaTek Helio P35 processor.
The device runs a modified version of Android 14, rather than a locked-down e-reader operating system. That enables access to the Google Play Store, web browsing, and apps including Kindle App, Kobo Books, and Google Play Books. Users can also transfer ebook files through the Type-C cable or microSD card slot.
Text is sharp, page ghosting is minimal, and the adjustable backlight works well at night. Comics and manga also benefit from the color display, although colors look more washed out than on the Kindle Colorsoft. The software has several bugs, and the small mono speaker sounds tinny.
Battery life is the main weakness. Manga reading through Kindle App lasted about 5 hours on one charge, while a basic PDF novel lasted closer to 10 hours. The device also lost about 10% of its charge each day while switched on with the screen off.
The Bigme B6 Color sells for around $179 / £149 / AU$280 and includes a magnetic protective case. It offers 64GB of storage, while the Kindle Colorsoft costs $279.99 / £269.99 / AU$449 for 32GB and does not include a case.
