TechRadar reviewer Rob Dwiar says the Audeze Maxwell 2 ANC is an excellent upgrade to the Maxwell 2, though not essential for existing owners. The review highlights its active noise cancellation (ANC), which Dwiar says blocked exterior noise in testing, and a transparency mode. The headset retains the original Maxwell 2’s planar magnetic drivers and delivers similarly strong sound, according to the review.
The design is largely unchanged, with memory foam cushions and a ventilated leather head strap. At 19.75oz / 560g, it is a weighty headset, though Dwiar found it comfortable during long sessions. A new ANC button is among the control changes. The review also notes a dual microphone setup, a shorter wireless dongle, and head tracking features from Embody Immerse Gaming Hive and Dolby Atmos Rendered compatibility, which Dwiar describes as niche.
Battery life is lower than on the non-ANC Maxwell 2. The ANC model is rated for 40 hours with ANC off and 35 hours with ANC on; Dwiar says the non-ANC model can last more than 80 hours. The ANC version costs $100 / £90 / AU$130 more than the non-ANC model. Dwiar considers it a compelling option for buyers who prioritize gaming audio and ANC, while noting that the added features may not justify the price for everyone.
