Apple TV Shares Trailer for Being Heumann

Apple TV has shared the trailer for Being Heumann, a new film from CODA director Sian Heder. The movie follows disability rights activist Judith Heumann and her efforts to improve society so disabled people could live more independently while challenging discrimination.

Ruth Madeley stars as Heumann, while Mark Ruffalo plays Joseph Califano, who served as Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare during the Jimmy Carter Administration. Califano often opposed the demands of the disability rights movement.

The film depicts the 504 Sit-In, in which more than 100 disabled people held a 28-day protest at the San Francisco Federal Building. The action became the longest sit-in at a federal building.

Being Heumann premieres at TIFF before a limited theatrical release on November 6. It arrives on Apple TV on November 13.

The supporting cast includes Dylan O’Brien, Will Brill, Michael Patrick Thornton, Antwan Tolliver, Rein Barcel, Charlie Rush-Reese, and Rob Delaney. CODA won Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars in 2022.
