Apple’s New Siri Remote Works with Older Apple TV Models

Apple’s updated Siri Remote adds Find My support and a built-in speaker, and it works with Apple TV models dating back to Apple TV HD. Buyers can get the remote on its own for $59; they do not need to buy the new Apple TV 4K to use it.

Find My support is available on Siri Remote (2nd generation and later). Precision Finding, which can show an iPhone how far away the remote is, requires Siri Remote (4th generation) and an iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, or iPhone 17 or later, excluding iPhone 17e. The iPhone must run the latest iOS software, and availability varies by region. The listed phones have Apple’s N1 networking chip, which supports Bluetooth channel sounding for AirTag-like precision tracking without a UWB chip.

As Stephen Robles noted in a post on Threads, only a couple of features are limited to the new Apple TV 4K: the remote’s built-in mic and surround sound with paired HomePod speakers. The fourth-generation Apple TV 4K and the remote are set to start shipping on November 13th.
