Apple’s M6 iMac Keeps Its Starting Price at $1,499

Apple’s new iMac with M6 keeps the all-in-one design and starting price of its predecessor while adding a faster chip, according to TechRadar reviewer Jacob Krol, who says he tested the computer for five days.

The entry-level model starts at $1,499 in the US and includes an M6 chip with a 10-core CPU, a 10-core GPU and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, along with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. A $1,699 configuration has a 12-core CPU and GPU and 512GB of storage. TechRadar says Nano-texture glass, additional Thunderbolt 4 ports and Ethernet are optional.

The iMac retains its 24-inch 4.5K Retina display and colorful, slim design. It comes in seven colors and includes a color-matched keyboard and Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad. Depending on configuration, it has two or four Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports. The higher-end configuration reviewed by Krol also has a 2.5Gb Ethernet port on its power adapter.

Krol describes the M6 as a meaningful performance upgrade for everyday and creative work, and says its Neural Engine can help accelerate AI-powered features. He characterizes the computer as a speed increase to a familiar design rather than a reinvention, and says existing M4 iMac owners have less reason to upgrade. Apple’s Mac mini with M6 is an alternative for buyers who provide their own display and peripherals.
