Anthropic has launched OSS Scanner, a free service that offers periodic security scans to open-source projects that opt in. The company says the scans will be conducted by its strongest models, including Claude Mythos.
The reports will be generated entirely by models, without human review or triage. Anthropic says this allows scans to happen faster and more often, while warning that reports may be incorrect or invalid.
AI tools have already helped identify major security flaws in open-source software. One example cited is the “Copy Fail” bug, which affected nearly every Linux distribution in May. Meanwhile, some projects are struggling to keep up with a surge in AI-generated bug reports, including projects associated with Linus Torvalds and Google.
