AMD CEO Lisa Su said the company is “a data center first company,” a remark that may deepen concern among PC gamers about the company’s priorities. She made the comment in an interview with Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi.
During AMD’s Q3 2026 earnings call, Su said PC sell-through slowed late in the quarter as higher memory and component costs weighed on demand. She also said AMD plans for PC market unit shipments to decline by a double-digit percentage in 2027. Su added that AMD expects to outperform the market as it delivers its Ryzen roadmap and grows its commercial footprint.
AMD’s data center revenue rose 97% year over year to $8.5 billion in the quarter, according to the report. Client and gaming revenue, which includes Ryzen and Radeon, was $3.7 billion, down 8%.
Su also described AI and superintelligence as becoming more essential to people’s lives. The report links AMD’s focus on data centers to gaming community frustration, while noting that the company’s shipment forecast points to broader weakness in the PC market. The figures and outlook reflect the company’s latest reported quarter and its forecast, respectively.
