Amazon unveils Echo Time, a camera-free smart clock with Alexa+

Amazon has introduced Echo Time, a smart clock with Alexa+ and a 3.2-inch screen. TechRadar’s Jacob Krol reports that it is designed around showing the time and alarm features rather than serving as a general-purpose smart display.

The device has no camera. Its screen can show customizable clock faces and mini widgets, and the display and a glow light can brighten or dim to support wake-up and wind-down routines. At night, the screen can dim to 0.3 nits.

Echo Time uses Omnisense sensors for room temperature, presence detection, ultrasound for breathing and proximity. If users opt in, Amazon says the sensors can help identify lighter sleep and adjust an alarm to sound earlier. The device is not intended to track sleep. Alexa+ can also respond to questions, play music and coordinate routines with connected smart-home devices.

The standard Echo Time costs $199.99 and comes in Graphite, Glacier White and Coral Pink. The Amazon Kids Echo Time costs $209.99 or £194.99, comes in Galactic Grape or Cosmic Lime, and includes a year of Amazon Kids+. Both versions are available to order and are shipping now.
