AI agent security must continue after login, TechRadar argues

Security systems have traditionally focused on verifying users when they log in. But as companies adopt autonomous AI agents, the security challenge continues after access is granted, according to a TechRadar article by Yaniv Toledano.

Unlike a conventional service account that follows prewritten code, an AI agent can interpret a goal, assess context, choose tools and decide what to do next. Verifying its identity at login does not establish that each later action is safe or correct. The article argues that teams need to monitor agents’ decisions and protect the data and computing resources they can reach.

It groups agents into three levels of independence. Conversational AI Agents (GenAI) need role-based access controls, logging and response checks. Agents operating with human guardrails, such as tools that draft emails or prepare database updates for review, need validated tool parameters and human approval for actions that write, delete, spend money or send information externally. Fully Autonomous Agents require stricter controls, including rate limits, real-time policy checks, restricted network access, continuous identity and authorization checks, and unalterable audit trails.

To apply these controls, security teams need visibility into prompts, responses, tool use and data movement while agents work. The article says combining that activity with network, user and cloud database logs can help teams identify which agent acted, who owns it, what data moved and which tool it used.
