Report: China Recruited AI Executive to Spy on Jensen Huang

China’s Ministry of State Security recruited Megaspeed executive Alice Huang to spy on Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, according to The New York Times, The Verge reports. The newspaper says the agency sought information about American AI chips and wanted to “potentially influence the company to push for its most advanced chips to be made available to China.”

Megaspeed is an Nvidia customer. The Times also says Alice Huang has relationships with senior executives across the AI chip industry, including leaders at Gigabyte. Alice Huang and Jensen Huang are not related; the Times describes their relationship as “close.”

The Times reported last week that Jensen Huang was seen as the target of a “Chinese spy plot,” including details about his relationship with Alice Huang. The report that China’s Ministry of State Security had recruited her is new. The Verge says President Trump, who is friendly with Jensen Huang, was briefed about the relationship last year but took no action.

Yesterday, three House committees asked Jensen Huang to appear for a joint, closed-door briefing about his “interactions” with Alice Huang.
