Disney tests robots for parking and glasses sorting

Disney is testing how autonomous robots could help with theme park operations, including guiding cars to parking spots and sorting 3D glasses. The experiments are part of Disney Accelerator 2026, through which Disney is collaborating with robotics companies Field AI and Physical Intelligence.

Field AI develops software and intelligence for robots rather than the hardware itself. In a demonstration, a robot equipped with Field AI technology uses a screen and directional movement to guide cars. Disney said the test is exploring how robots can direct cars to park and how people respond. The company has also discussed the possibility of using characters from Cars or robots from WALL-E for the task.

Disney is also exploring a robot that can sort and organize the 3D glasses guests return after attractions. The task can involve untangling and stacking glasses. Physical Intelligence says its robots learn tasks through demonstrations and training, using inputs such as camera vision and touch sensors. The company said its technology has been deployed in parks in some test use cases.

Both projects remain experiments. Disney has previously brought work from an Accelerator participant into a park: Haddy, part of the 2025 group, developed 3D-printed materials and components used to create a new boat for Jungle Cruise at Disneyland in 2025.
