Apple says 100,000 apps are optimized for iPhone Duo

Apple says more than 100,000 apps built for iPhone Duo are now available on the App Store, with thousands more added each day. The company announced the milestone alongside updates to more than a dozen notable apps, including Microsoft Word and Outlook, Zoom, sports apps from the NBA and NHL, Etsy, LTK, Goodnotes, Extra and Halide Mark III.

These join apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp that were already optimized for the device. Apps that are not optimized can show a black bar along the screen’s side, taking up space, or place functions in an overflow menu.

Apple said more than 2,000 developers attended over 50 in-person workshops across 19 cities worldwide, where they could work on apps using iPhone Duo with Apple’s support. Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, said developers had embraced the device and that the company was grateful for their creativity.

The device starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model. It sold out within hours of orders opening, and shipping estimates have moved into next year. On its earnings call this week, Apple said it was “hard to predict” when supply constraints causing delays would improve.

Apple also listed dozens of apps updated for iOS 27 and optimized for iPhone Duo. The source notes that some updates had not fully rolled out: Spotify, for example, still showed the side bar, and an update was not yet listed in the App Store on the publication’s review unit.
