Hackers claim to steal 23TB of data from Russia’s Rosstat

Hackers say they stole about 23TB of data from Russia’s Federal State Statistics Service, known as Rosstat, in a breach the agency acknowledged over the October 29 to November 1, 2026 weekend. Rosstat has not confirmed that data was taken.

The groups Silent Crow and Belarusian CyberPartisans said the stolen material included data from document management systems and other databases. Silent Crow also claimed access to Rosstat’s central office, regional units and statistical information center. The groups’ claims were published on Telegram.

Rosstat said suspicious activity was detected and a response began promptly. The agency said it had not identified compromised databases or a leak of legally protected information. It said cybersecurity specialists and law enforcement agencies were investigating the attack’s path and sources.

During the reported access, the hackers published figures they attributed to Russian military losses since the start of the war in Ukraine: 1,584,910 personnel and 587,409 unmanned aerial vehicles. The figures have not been verified by official Russian sources, according to TechRadar.

The groups also claimed to have accessed domain controllers and virtualization systems, including VMware ESXi. Rosstat has not confirmed the hackers’ claims of data exfiltration or system access.
