The New York Times Company is in talks to acquire Letterboxd for around $330 million, The New York Times reports. Letterboxd is a social network for film lovers.
The talks have reportedly included the possibility that Letterboxd’s co-founders would remain in charge but report to a Times Company executive. Letterboxd would likely remain standalone for the “foreseeable future,” according to the report, and integrate the Times Company’s advertising technology.
Sony Pictures Entertainment and A24 were also recently rumored to be interested in buying Letterboxd. A New York Times spokesperson, Charlie Stadtlander, declined to comment. Letterboxd and its current parent company, Tiny Ltd., did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Verge.
A possible acquisition would follow the Times Company’s purchases of Wordle, in a deal described as being in “the low seven figures”; Wirecutter, for “slightly more than $30 million”; and The Athletic, for $550 million.
