Anthropic is rolling out a new Claude tool called Personal Finance that lets users connect bank and credit card accounts through Plaid and ask questions about their finances. The company says access is read-only: the tool cannot move, manage or invest users’ money.
Users can ask Claude to total spending across connected accounts and sort it into categories such as rent and utilities, food and drink, and shopping. Anthropic says the tool can also flag potential issues, including duplicate charges, unexpected fees and bills that are steadily increasing. It can explain terms such as APR and calculate how much a user paid in interest over the past year.
Anthropic says Claude can access each connected bank’s name, account name and type, the last four digits of the account number, balances, credit limits and up to two years of transaction history. Conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train Anthropic’s models, the company says.
Personal Finance begins rolling out in beta this week to users in the U.S. on Claude’s Pro, Max and Ultra plans. Anthropic says the tool provides answers in everyday language and has no ads or sponsored recommendations. Claude does not offer its own credit cards, loans or savings accounts through the tool.
The launch follows OpenAI’s introduction of similar ChatGPT personal finance tools in May, according to TechCrunch. Anthropic has also launched Claude for Legal and Claude for Financial Services earlier this year.
