GM recalls 67,380 EVs over temporary braking loss

General Motors is recalling 67,380 vehicles after reports that some of its electric vehicles temporarily lost braking power. The issue affects all-wheel-drive models and stems from a software glitch in the brake system control module (BSCM), according to the company’s report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

GM is aware of 20 incidents, all at low speed. Two resulted in minor injuries, according to the NHTSA report.

The recall focuses on the 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV and also covers Cadillac’s Lyriq, Vistiq and Celestiq. Owners of affected vehicles will receive a letter. The vehicles’ VINs can also be checked on the NHTSA website, or owners can contact Chevrolet or Cadillac customer service.

GM says the software issue can be fixed free of charge with an over-the-air (OTA) update or at a local dealer. The report also notes a separate recall of 12,000 Chevy Express and GMC Savana vehicles over a loose steering gear assembly nut, which could require replacement of the steering gear assembly.

The source article cites NHTSA data saying Tesla has partially or fully remedied recalls affecting 12.1 million vehicles from 2021 to 2025. It says other electric vehicle manufacturers are also making connected cars that can receive software updates.
