Apple’s developer betas for iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3 and macOS 27.3 add vertical tabs and Adaptive Dark Mode to Safari. The features are available in the developer betas, with a wider release planned later. Apple has not announced when the final versions will arrive.
Vertical tabs can be enabled from Safari’s View menu or Settings. They appear as icons by default and can be pinned by dragging them to the top of the list. Users can also organize tabs into groups. On iPadOS and macOS, the tabs sit on the left side of the browser window; on iOS, they work in both portrait and landscape orientation.
Adaptive Dark Mode is designed to darken pages that do not support dark mode, while adjusting backgrounds, logos, graphics, vector artwork, raised surfaces and shadows. It leaves pages that are already dark unchanged. Developers can add tags to prevent the feature from adjusting specific page elements.
On devices that support Apple Intelligence, Safari also gains Siri tools that can work with entire web pages and hidden tabs. Custom Actions can organize tabs and clear browsing history by topic, site or time period. The features are currently limited to developer betas, which are early releases that may contain bugs.
