Xreal has launched Aura, a pair of wired smart glasses powered by Google’s Android XR platform and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite. The glasses connect to a separate puck for processing, then display content in the wearer’s field of view.
Aura uses a Sony Micro-OLED display with 1200p resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and a 95-degree field of view. The glasses weigh 95 grams, compared with 69 grams for Meta’s Ray-Ban Meta Display, and users also have to carry the puck.
At launch, Aura supports Google Play apps and games, plus XR experiences including NBA App for Android XR, Nevatars, Fallout: Factions, Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars, NASCAR XR App and San Francisco Ballet Company’s The Nutcracker. A USB-C connection lets users plug in a computer or handheld gaming console. The glasses can also show a multi-monitor setup or a large virtual screen. Bose technology powers the audio, while Gemini is available as a Q&A assistant that can help users understand on-screen context.
Aura is available to order in the United States, Canada, Japan and South Korea. The 12GB + 256GB version costs $1,279, with a limited launch price of $1,099 through December. The 16GB + 512GB version costs $1,499, with a launch price of $1,299 through December. Xreal said shipping is expected to begin by mid-November.
