Reddit is introducing two homepage feeds: Following and For You. The company says the new feed experience is starting to roll out, and some users may already see it.
Following shows posts from subreddits a user follows. For You combines posts from those subreddits with recommendations Reddit says are related to the user’s interests. In a report for The Verge, Jay Peters said he had seen suggestions from subreddits he did not follow but had recently visited.
The change follows Reddit’s earlier announcement that it would deprecate r/all, which surfaced popular posts from across the platform. Reddit said that move was part of ongoing efforts to simplify the service and improve Home feed personalization.
Reddit says the new feeds are a first step toward helping users discover relevant ideas, connections, perspectives, or interests. The company also remembers which feed a user last viewed and reopens Reddit to that feed, Peters reported.
Users seeking the older homepage, with sorting options such as “best,” “hot,” “new,” “rising,” and “controversial,” can use Old Reddit at old.reddit.com or find it in settings. Reddit plans to reduce access to Old Reddit for people who have not used it recently.
